Since moving to Reims, France, Joy Brodier realized that family members fought for the liberation of the French people in World War I. One relative lost his life not so far from where she now lives. Her father's uncle, George Tinsley Loveley, fought in Gallipoli and died on the Somme. His war record however consists of only 30 lines. With the help of diaries, regimental records, books by other authors, family history records and the Internet, Joy has pieced together the awful conditions in Gallipoli and the calm before the storm for the young Petty Officer on the Somme in 1918. Over 2 years of work has resulted in 56 pages that she hopes fill in background details of his early life in Boston Lincolnshire, the Royal Naval Division, daily routines, food and illnesses that are not often found in war biographies.
