The narrative follows Salomon from his arrival in the colonies to his pivotal role in Philadelphia, where he became a key broker for the Office of Finance. Working alongside figures like Robert Morris, Salomon leveraged his personal credit and international connections to secure the funds necessary to keep the revolution alive. The book highlights not only his fiscal contributions but also his personal sacrifices, including his arrests by the British and his tireless advocacy for religious liberty.
This historical study serves as a vital record of the immigrant experience and the diverse participation that defined the American struggle for independence. By focusing on Salomon's dual identity as a devout Jew and a committed American patriot, the author offers a nuanced perspective on the economic and social fabric of the late eighteenth century. It remains an essential read for those interested in the financial history of the American Revolution and the significant impact of Jewish individuals on the nation's early development.
