Hawick And Its Old Memories is a historical book written by James Wilson and first published in 1858. The book is a comprehensive account of the town of Hawick, located in the Scottish Borders region. It covers the history, culture, and people of the town from its earliest days up until the mid-19th century. The book is divided into several chapters, each focusing on a specific aspect of Hawick's history. The first chapter provides an overview of the town's geography and topography, while the second chapter delves into its early history, including the arrival of the Romans and the establishment of the town as a center of trade and commerce. Subsequent chapters explore Hawick's religious history, its role in the Border Reivers conflict, and its development during the Industrial Revolution. The book also includes detailed descriptions of notable buildings and landmarks in the town, as well as profiles of prominent figures in Hawick's history. Throughout the book, Wilson draws on a wealth of primary sources, including official records, personal correspondence, and local folklore, to provide a rich and detailed portrait of Hawick and its people. Hawick And Its Old Memories is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of the Scottish Borders region or the development of small towns in the 19th century. With An Appendix Containing Biographical Sketches, And Other Illustrative Documents. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
