Maggie Powers grew up on a farm in the Midwest during the Great Depression. Early in life, she was fascinated by family photos and the stories they told of family and history. Photos featured in Hats and Haiku convey Maggie's vision as a photographer and her love of farm, family, people, and places.
As a multitalented artist, Maggie started writing in her mid-teens. Her poetry captures flashes of life and adventure, real and imagined. When she pens English haiku, a form based on Japanese haiku, with its strict 5-7-5 form, Maggie reveals a rare ability to express emotion and surprise.
As a young woman, Maggie adopted an urban lifestyle and a very chic 1950-60s wardrobe. And, she wore hats-lots and lots of hats. You will find some of her lovely hats featured in Hats and Haiku.
