On a cold evening in September 1860, a young Black man named Alfred James Barnes escapes the McElroy Plantation and runs away to the woods of Mississippi. While being hunted by slave catchers and their dogs, Alfred is unexpectedly rescued by a strange African woman with wondrous powers. The Mami Wata, supposedly an Emissary of the Yoruba Gods of West Africa, claims to have a mission for Alfred. The Mami Wata infects Alfred with a Supernatural virus which renders him almost indestructible but also curses him. When the Civil War breaks out, Alfred joins the Buffalo Soldiers and even fights at the Battle of Antietam. Fleeing both the Dirty South and the Mami Wata, Alfred settles in Boston and marries the lovely Matilda. They start a family. Powerful enemies refuse to leave them alone. Alfred must defend himself and those he holds dear. Fortunately, he's unkillable...
