A cooling system is installed in a humid climate and sized generously, on the reasoning that extra capacity is a margin of safety. It satisfies the thermostat quickly and shuts off. The temperature is correct. The occupants are uncomfortable, the humidity is high, and the air feels clammy and stale. Nothing has broken. Every component is operating within specification. The system fails because it removes sensible heat faster than it removes moisture, and it fails precisely because it was oversized.

Explaining that single failure requires five separate bodies of knowledge at once: the moisture properties of air, the load calculation that set the equipment size, the refrigeration cycle that decides how much coil capacity is available for moisture removal, the airflow the duct system actually delivers, and the control strategy that decides when the equipment runs.
