The mountain man Adrien Boudreau was content with his life in the wilderness, and when he finally made it to the Staked Plains of Texas he knew he found his new home. It was Comanche country and there were few other white men there which was to his liking. It took some time but eventually even the Comanche recognized him for a man of truth and bravery.
His trading post in the middle of the Comacheria was causing questions among the men of Big Spring. How could a white man keep his hair in the middle of the Comanches? It was those Comanche and the buffalo hunters that were making him rich, but it wasn't until the arrival of his son that made his life complete.
He didn't live long enough to see his son as a man but the Comanche took him and his mother back into their band. His father had taught him to read the bible and Blackstone, a book of common laws, and that along with his Comanche teachings made him a whole man.
His mother knew that the days of her people were numbered and that the only future her son Chason would have was with his father's white people. It was a hard decision but she insisted was the best for him.
It was easy to ride to the white man's world but he was to find it was not easy to live in it. A big man in the country wanted to know what happened to his three nephews when they rode north into the Comancheria and never came back and he suspected that the Comanche halfbreed, as he called him, knew the answer.
Learning the ways of the white man almost got him killed but he knew if he was going to live in the white man's world he had to learn those ways. Things were not as clear cut as they were with the Comanche and the laws he had learned from Blackstone seemed as if they were only for the rich and powerful.
When his friend was tortured and brutally murdered trying to protect him the Comanche in him had to seek revenge and Hanai, the spirit warrior, rode out for that revenge. The man who thought he was above the law needed to be taught a lesson and that lesson as coming in the Comanche way.
