Good Hair on a Rainy Day follows twelve-year-old Alisa as she prepares for her first day of middle school. She so carefully styles her beautiful natural hair in soft, bouncy curls. When Alisa looks in the mirror, she feels confident, proud, and ready to make a wonderful first impression.
But before she reaches school, gray clouds gather and rain begins to pour. The damp air causes Alisa's curls to fall, leaving her hair fluffy and poofy. A group of popular girls with long, straight, permed hair notices her. They whisper, laugh, and make hurtful jokes about her natural hair. Their cruel words leave Alisa feeling embarrassed, insecure, and eager to hide.
As the school day continues, Alisa struggles to focus because she cannot stop thinking about what the girls said. She wonders whether she must change her appearance to be accepted. Slowly, Alisa begins to realize that beauty is not determined by straight hair, perfect curls, rainy weather, or someone else's opinion.
With growing courage, Alisa lifts her head, fluffs her rain-touched hair, and walks confidently through the hallway. She embraces every part of herself and discovers that her natural hair is beautiful whether it is curly, damp, fluffy, or poofy. More importantly, she learns that true confidence comes from self-love and knowing her worth. Good Hair on a Rainy Day is an inspiring story about resilience, kindness, natural beauty, and the courage to be yourself-a powerful reminder that real beauty shines from within. A joy for young readers, too.
