General Introduction to the Old Testament is a comprehensive and scholarly exploration of the foundational texts of the Hebrew Bible. Written by the esteemed Hebraist and theologian William Henry Green, this work serves as an essential guide for students, clergy, and scholars seeking to understand the historical and theological complexities of the Old Testament canon and text.
Green meticulously examines the formation of the biblical canon, the history of the text, and the preservation of the sacred writings through various manuscripts and versions. The work is characterized by its rigorous analysis of the authenticity and integrity of the biblical books, offering a critical yet reverent defense of the traditional view of the scriptures. Green addresses the challenges posed by higher criticism, providing a robust intellectual framework for the study of divine revelation and the structure of the Old Testament. His insights highlight the enduring significance of these ancient texts within the Christian theological tradition. This volume remains a vital resource for anyone interested in biblical hermeneutics, textual history, and the scholarly foundations of biblical faith.
