Dr. Nyong, an embittered surgeon from war-torn Liberia, escapes home to Nigeria. To rehabilitate him, the University of Adiama employs him as a lecturer in the medical school. Regina's calm existence ceases the moment she looks into Dr. Nyong's passionate gaze. Their unexpected romance sweeps Regina off her feet, and she breaks her engagement with Akanimo.
Seeking vengeance, Akanimo visits an old witchdoctor and becomes determined to destroy Regina's newfound love. But Regina has problems of her own. Her wedding with Dr. Nyong is interrupted by the sudden appearance of a woman who claims to be his Liberian wife. Humiliated, she returns to Akanimo and begs for an apology. But is it too late? Will Akanimo's revenge destroy them all?
'A thundering, extremely smart, fun tale. Udom is known for playwrighting. Gambling with Destiny is indeed a stage action in prose. -Udeme M. Etim, Ministry of Information, Uyo-Nigeria.Also in
