The amazing story behind the creation of the Great American Flag that was built by Anchor Industries in Evansville in 1980. March 22, 2015 will mark the 35th Anniversary of the dedication of the flag at the Evansville airport. 10,000 people attended the event. The flag was never used for it's original purpose to hang from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge over New York Harbor. Instead it was given as a gift to the US government and spent several years locked in a warehouse in DC. It has only been unfurled on 12 occasions including: -Dedication in Evansville -Flag Day events in Washington DC -Central Park, New York -Welcoming the hostages home from Iran -Back home in Evansville at Ellis Park -At a cemetery in Kansas -In Pennsylvania in remembrance of the 9/11 crash of Flight 93
