The Grave: A Poem Illustrated by Twelve Etchings is a work of poetry by the renowned English poet and artist William Blake. Published in 1808, the book features twelve etchings by Blake that accompany the text, each one depicting a different aspect of death and the afterlife. The poem itself is a meditation on mortality, exploring themes of human frailty, the passage of time, and the inevitability of death. Blake's illustrations are highly symbolic and often surreal, featuring figures such as angels, demons, and skeletons. The combination of Blake's vivid imagery and his powerful, evocative language make The Grave a haunting and thought-provoking work that continues to captivate readers today.1808. The poem by William Blake, together with stunning etchings based on Blake's original hand-painted illustrations, and Blake's descriptions of the designs: By the arrangement here made, the regular progression of Man, from his first descent into the Vale of Death, to his last admission into Life eternal, is exhibited. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
