This Young Learners Special Edition combines a read-aloud picture book story with twenty original line-art illustrations ready for crayons, colored pencils, or markers. Children ages 4 through 7 follow Grandma's gentle telling of June 19, 1865, the day the news of freedom finally reached Galveston, Texas. They meet the families who walked into a brand-new day, learn about the Juneteenth flag and what its colors mean, and join in modern celebrations of red drinks, family cookouts, drumming, dancing, and parades.
