According to history, the French have no Gaulish ancestors, which will come as a surprise to many! The true Gaul was of imposing stature for his time, with long, blond hair and blue eyes. Today's Frenchman is very different from this racial image. Today, French identity is based on its republican significance. After the Roman annexation of the pure Gallic race, the Gauls were shared with other tribes such as the Celts, the Ambiens, the Helvetians, the Picts... all sorts of tribes. What's more, over 2,000 years ago, no people were known by the name of Gaul (together in France org). French itself is derived from popular Latin, which has preserved traces of the language once spoken in the region (Gallic), with little vocabulary, but probably more in phonetics and grammar (probably).
