The Coptic manuscript tradition preserves an enormous wealth of Gospel responses to be chanted throughout the Coptic Year, most of which have never been published or translated. This edition brings them to light for use by chanters and deacons in liturgical worship, and by the faithful in their private devotion.
Beyond their liturgical function, these Gospel responses offer profound exegetical and spiritual insight, drawing the reader into a living encounter with Christ and His Kingdom. Once widespread but gradually lost with the rise of printed liturgical books, this rich tradition is here restored for the Church today.
This work relies on multiple medieval manuscripts, including Tartīb al-Bayʿa (Church Order), for its material and offers new translations in English and Arabic that facilitate chanting these liturgical responses in any language.
An index of commemorations for each day of the Coptic year further enables practical use, guiding readers through the full liturgical cycle.
