Goldsmith's Plays: The Good-Natured Man, She Stoops To Conquer (1888) is a collection of two plays written by Oliver Goldsmith, a prominent Irish author and playwright of the 18th century. The first play, The Good-Natured Man, is a comedy that follows the misadventures of a kind-hearted but naive young man named Honeywood as he navigates the complexities of love and friendship in London society. Along the way, he encounters a colorful cast of characters, including a scheming uncle, a flirtatious widow, and a dashing highwayman. The second play, She Stoops To Conquer, is also a comedy and is considered one of Goldsmith's most famous works. It tells the story of a wealthy young man named Charles Marlow who is sent to the countryside to court the daughter of a wealthy landowner. However, due to his fear of upper-class women, he mistakes the landowner's daughter for a barmaid and begins to woo her with greater ease. Meanwhile, the landowner's son and his friend play a series of pranks on Marlow and his friend, leading to a series of hilarious misunderstandings and mishaps. Both plays are known for their witty dialogue, clever plot twists, and satirical commentary on the social mores of 18th-century England. Goldsmith's Plays: The Good-Natured Man, She Stoops To Conquer (1888) is a must-read for fans of classic literature and theater. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
