The Golden Legend is a book written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, first published in 1851. It is a collection of hagiographies or stories of the lives of saints, compiled in the 13th century by Jacobus de Voragine. The book is divided into seven sections, each containing a number of stories related to a particular saint or feast day. Longfellow's version of The Golden Legend is written in poetic prose and is notable for its vivid descriptions and lyrical language. The book includes stories of well-known saints such as Saint George and Saint Christopher, as well as lesser-known figures such as Saint Ursula and Saint Margaret. The book also includes a number of illustrations, including engravings by Gustave Dor. The Golden Legend was a popular book in the 19th century and was widely read for its literary and historical value. Today, it is still considered an important work of literature and is studied by scholars of medieval history and literature.1851. This wonderful book is a collection of Longfellow's poetical tales.
