Gold Swindle: The Story of Our Dwindling Gold by George Racey Jordan presents a forceful critique of American monetary policy and the progressive erosion of the nation's gold reserves. Jordan argues that the abandonment of sound money, the government's 1933 seizure and restriction of privately held gold, suppression of domestic gold mining, deficit spending, inflation, foreign aid, and the expansion of government-managed credit weakened both the dollar and American national security. Drawing on his wartime experience with Lend-Lease, congressional hearings, government documents, and monetary history, he examines the Roosevelt administration, New Deal economic policies, wartime shipments to the Soviet Union, foreign claims on American gold, and the growing role of international financial arrangements. Jordan contends that the United States created an unstable monetary system in which an expanding supply of paper money and bank credit rested upon a dwindling gold base, and calls for an end to deficit financing, renewed domestic gold production, restoration of Americans' right to own and trade gold, and a return to monetary policies founded upon hard money and fiscal discipline.
