The Gold Bracelet: Or The Blind Basketmakers Children is a novel written by Elias James Whitney and first published in 1860. The story is set in the mid-19th century and follows the lives of two siblings, Mary and Tom, who are the children of a blind basketmaker. The family is poor and struggles to make ends meet, but they are happy and content with their simple life. One day, Mary finds a gold bracelet in the street and decides to sell it to help her family. The bracelet turns out to belong to a wealthy woman, Mrs. Carlton, who is impressed by Mary's honesty and kindness. Mrs. Carlton takes an interest in the family and helps them in various ways, including providing Tom with an education. As the story progresses, Mary and Tom face various challenges, including a fire that destroys their home and the death of their father. However, they continue to persevere and work hard to improve their lives. The novel explores themes of poverty, honesty, hard work, and the importance of education. It also highlights the stark contrast between the lives of the wealthy and the poor during the 19th century. Overall, The Gold Bracelet is a heartwarming story of two siblings who overcome adversity with the help of a kind-hearted stranger. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
