Goethe's West-Eastern Divan is a collection of poems written by German literary giant, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. The book, which was first published in 1819, is a tribute to the poetry of the East, particularly that of Persian poet Hafez. The collection is divided into twelve sections, each containing a number of poems that explore a range of themes including love, nature, religion, and the human condition. The poems are written in a variety of styles, including sonnets, ghazals, and quatrains. The title of the book, West-Eastern Divan, is a reference to the Divan of Hafez, a collection of poems by the Persian poet. Goethe was deeply inspired by Hafez's work and sought to emulate his style in his own poetry. The book is also notable for its exploration of the relationship between East and West, with Goethe using his poetry to bridge the gap between the two cultures. In particular, he sought to challenge the prevailing Orientalist view of the East as exotic and mysterious, instead presenting it as a place of beauty, wisdom, and spirituality.Goethe's West-Eastern Divan has been widely praised for its lyrical beauty and its contribution to the development of German literature. It remains a popular and influential work to this day. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
