Suffering, the bane of human existence, can feel both pointless and odious whenever we find ourselves in pain and distress. Has God forgotten about me? One may ask. Why can I not enjoy blessings and consolation here on earth? After all, surely Christ must wish for me to be happy. One can even feel abandoned and forsaken, as time and time again one is forced to come to terms with the fact that this life of ours has not turned out at all as we had wished.
Yet, God does indeed desire us to be happy, always seeking to bring us true joy and bliss. However, the wisdom of God is far different than our feeble human understanding. For despite its many pleasures and glories, Christ beholds this life to be as fleeting and transient as a long drawn out dream.
This is why, even with His great compassion and love for us, God allows trials to befall us so as to purify us further - so that when this vain existence of ours has ended, He shall be able to reward us a hundred fold for our many sufferings. God's Silk is a fully illustrated story symbolically depicting the immense good done to our soul when one endures the cross with patience and faith.
