Under the advisement of his attorney, who he believed had his best interests in mind, Tom pled guilty before an atheist judge (who he had a negative history with) and was sentenced to sixty months in prison. This was despite him having no prior criminal history and the sentencing guidelines calling for probation. In a moment, Tom's life was drastically changed.
God's Forgiven Servant: A Christian in Prison tells Tom's story of his time behind bars. His law enforcement background made him a target among other inmates, especially after he was mistakenly reassigned to a maximum-security prison known as the snake pit, where murders were an almost daily occurrence. He began his sentence intending to keep to himself and not interact with the other inmates, but God had another plan. God's will was for Tom to be His representative in prison and minister to unsaved inmates. Through his obedience, Tom had the opportunity to hold Bible studies and lead more than thirty inmates to salvation. And God protected him every step of the way, intervening when his life was in danger many times.
