Ahamba Dike made his own sister, Ngozi, pregnant, and in order to avoid the punishment, he fled his village and country, to go and settle in Ghana, and to live there for the rest of his life. In Ghana, he married and had a daughter, Bensi, who later fell in love with a young Nigerian called Udoka. Udoka and Bensi lived as husband and wife, but later discovered that they were siblings, and Ahamba Dike was their father. So, after all, Ahamba could not hide from the gods: he died along the line. Udoka had committed a great abomination, according to the tradition. But it was an error in ignorance. Notwithstanding, he must go back to the village to cleanse the land and pacify the gods to avert judgement. He was able to meet all the demands that the custom and tradition placed on him, yet the gods did not spare him. Ahamba died because he refused to meet the demands of the gods. But Udoka and Bensi met all the demands, yet they were not spared. The people of the land were now confused: where then is the fairness of the gods?
