In Book Four of God and gods, the road runs south out of Shinar - down the longest river on earth, to the oldest stones men ever stacked and the oldest kingdoms men ever wrote down. Egypt's temples, Kush and the mountain kingdoms, the High God of Africa's thousand tongues, and the empires of the Americas across the water.
And here the road turns strange: the South didn't forget the Most High. The South remembered Him so hard it built mountains trying to reach Him - and then whole nations of the South will tell you to your face that the High God was near once, and something happened, and He withdrew. They kept the memory of the leaving. No other road we've walked kept that part so plain.
Same table rules as every road before, so nobody can say the game changed when the map did. Every claim gets graded the way a working man grades anything: RECORD for what's written in stone and ink, ESTIMATE for what the evidence leans toward, THEORY for the honest guess, LEGEND for the story that outran its receipts. Honesty both ways - and when the men wearing the cross did dark work in the South, that plank goes on the scale with all the others.
