In 2026, Alessia, an Italian instrumental music composer, experiences a bizarre technological anomaly in her soundproof studio. A wormhole transports her and her modern digital workstation to a barn in Encino, California, in 1985. She awakens in her 18-year-old body, though her mind remains that of a 59-year-old woman, and her hair has turned a striking lunar-white. She is immediately discovered by a 27-year-old Michael Jackson.
Terrified that her 21st-century technology will be stolen and exploited by the ruthless 1980s music industry, Alessia makes a pact with Michael. She plays him her pristine, noise-free digital tracks. Mesmerized by the purity of the sound, Michael agrees to keep her and her technology an absolute secret, dubbing her the girl with moon-hair. With the reluctant help of Michael's security chief, Bill Bray, Alessia assumes a false identity to legally exist in the 1980s.
Alessia becomes a silent shadow in Michael's life. She sets up her futuristic studio in a hidden room behind a bookcase in Encino, and later under a trapdoor in a guesthouse at Neverland. By day, to maintain her camouflage, she works ordinary jobs, utilizing her real-world skills as a chef in various diners. By night, she offers Michael a sanctuary from his crushing fame, allowing him to experiment with her futuristic digital sounds. Alessia serves as his emotional anchor, fiercely protecting him from the men in black of the industry and his own physical vulnerabilities. She consistently refuses to let him use her technology for his official releases, fearing a catastrophic temporal paradox.
Over the next two decades, Alessia watches Michael navigate the highest peaks of his career, as well as his excruciating media persecution and physical decline. As the world turns against him following the 2003 allegations and the subsequent trial, Alessia remains his fierce, silent protector. She prepares his meals to keep him healthy and offers him the only space where he is treated simply as a man, not an icon.
As the years roll on, the burden of knowing Michael's tragic fate weighs heavily on Alessia. During the grueling preparations for the This Is It tour in May 2009, Michael is physically and spiritually exhausted. In a poignant moment in her soundproof room, Michael acknowledges that the stolen, quiet moments they shared were his only true rebellion and the only normal life he ever experienced. He thanks her for having the courage to stay in the shadows with him.
In June 2009, the wormhole reopens. As Alessia is pulled back to her present, Michael walks peacefully into the light of the singularity, young and free, leaving the noise of the world behind. Alessia wakes up in 2026 in her studio, greeted by her Maltese dog, Yuki. To protect Michael's legacy and the secret they shared, she deletes all the recordings they made together. In a profound final realization, Alessia understands that she didn't travel through time to change history; rather, history changed her. She recognizes that Michael's struggles mirrored her own deep-seated wounds from an oppressive past, and that her journey was ultimately about finding her own truth and freedom.
