Two weeks before his Vietnam deployment, Martin Shadows's grandfather tells him what will happen there. Martin doesn't believe a word of it-until the impossible begins coming true.
Newly commissioned Second Lieutenant Martin Shadows is preparing for war when his father urges him to visit the Lakota grandfather he has met only once, as a child.
Two Shadows is waiting for him.
The old man speaks of visions: Martin descending upon his enemies from the trees, riding the fiery breath of a great bird into the mountains, and facing dangers no young Army officer could possibly foresee. Trained to trust facts, discipline, and reason, Martin dismisses the predictions as the strange beliefs of a grandfather he barely knows.
Then he arrives in Vietnam.
What Martin expects to be a relatively conventional assignment in military intelligence quickly draws him into a shadow war of secret missions, deception, enemy agents, and dangers that blur the line between hunter and hunted. One by one, his grandfather's impossible visions begin taking shape around him.
And Martin can no longer dismiss the heritage he left behind in America.
As the war pushes him deeper into the Central Highlands-and farther from the young man who first arrived-Martin is forced to confront questions no military training can answer. What does he owe the men who depend on him? How much of himself can he sacrifice and still find his way home? And if Two Shadows truly saw what was waiting for him in Vietnam, what else did his grandfather see?
Blending authentic Vietnam War action with family legacy, Lakota heritage, psychological suspense, and the mysteries that follow soldiers into battle, The Ghost is a story of courage, identity, survival, and a young man discovering that the past may hold the only path through an uncertain future.
