German colonialism in Africa, although often overshadowed by other colonial powers such as France or the United Kingdom, has left an indelible mark on African societies and collective memories. While the repercussions of this colonial period are still visible and palpable in contemporary relations between Germany and African countries, it remains a subject of study that is often marginalized-or even overlooked-in historical and memory-related debates. This conference aims to offer fresh perspectives on this colonial past by situating it at the intersection of several disciplines, thereby enriching our understanding of the processes of domination, resistance, and forgetting that have shaped the history and memory of German colonialism in Africa.
