Die Malerei der Romantik, des Impressionismus und Expressionismus konkurieren mit der Seelenwirkung der Musik. Im 20. Jahrhunder erfolgt der Umschwung: Die Musiker komponierten nach optischen Kategorien in der sogenannten musikalischen Graphik. Themen sind u.a. die Doppelbegabungen, Verehrer und Gegner Richrd Wagners, der Beethoven- und Johann-Sebastian-Bach- Kult um 1900, die gemalten Symphonien und Fugen, Paul Klee und die Musik, die Theorie der korrespondierenden Töne und Farben, die malenden Jazzmusiker.
