Volume 2 of the bilingual edition of the Loci praecipui theologici of 1559 now contains on 518 pages the second half of Melanchthon's major work. It includes such important doctrinal pieces as the Doctrine of the Church, of the Sacraments and of Predestination, with which the late Melanchthon took a position within the Reformation debates. Also important is his teaching on consolation, De calamitatibus et de cruce et de veris consolationibus, which was to have a lasting influence on the piety of Lutheranism.
