Die uberbordende Barock-Metropole fasziniert durch ihre Extreme: grandiose Prachtentfaltung und Kunstproduktion auf der einen Seite, Gewalt und Armut auf der anderen. Glanzvolle Feste wechselten mit Hungersnoten und Uberschwemmungen - Pracht, Elend und Gewalt wohnten hier besonders eng beieinander. Volker Reinhardt vermisst die ganze Spannweite dieser Metropole und richtet seinen Blick auf die Hohepunkte wie auf den Alltag, auf die Kirche, die Baukunst, die Wirtschaft und die ganz normale Bevolkerung.
