This biography by Ferdinand Wolf explores the life and works of Dom Antonio José Da Silva (1705-1739), the celebrated Portuguese-Jewish playwright also known as The Jew. Wolf examines Da Silva's dramatic works, often referred to as the Operas of the Jew, within the context of 18th-century Portuguese society and literary history. The book delves into the cultural significance of Da Silva's plays and provides insights into his tragic fate, highlighting his enduring legacy as a prominent figure in Portuguese literature. A valuable resource for those interested in biographical studies, Portuguese history, and Jewish contributions to European arts.
