Carl Friedrich Zelter: Eine Lebensbeschreibung is a detailed biography of the influential German composer, conductor, and teacher, Carl Friedrich Zelter (1758-1832). This work by Wilhelm Rintel explores Zelter's life, his contributions to German music, and his role in the cultural life of Berlin.
Zelter was a pivotal figure in the development of choral music and musical education in Germany. A close friend of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, he set many of Goethe's poems to music. His influence extended through his work with the Berliner Singakademie, which he directed for many years. This biography provides valuable insights into Zelter's musical style, his relationships with other prominent figures of his time, and his lasting impact on the musical landscape of 19th-century Germany.
