Der Biberpelz (The Beaver Coat) is a classic comedy by German playwright Gerhart Hauptmann, first performed in 1893. This satirical play critiques Prussian society through the story of Frau Wolff, a resourceful and cunning woman living near Berlin. Faced with poverty, she resorts to petty theft from the wealthy landowners, justifying her actions as a means of survival against a corrupt and indifferent system.
