The geocentric vs. heliocentric debate was settled by 1700, or so we are told. Therefore, the mere suggestion that the Earth remains fixed at the center of the moving Universe -- as was believed by astronomers, mathematicians, philosophers and common folk alike for thousands of years -- is sure to invite mockery and scorn from all strata of today's society. Very few dare to go there. And yet, there's an inside trade secret which leading Cosmologists openly admit to, at least among themselves. For example, George Ellis of the University of Cape Town once told the Scientific American Magazine: People need to be aware that there is a range of models that could explain the observations. For instance, I can construct you a spherically symmetrical universe with earth at its center, and you cannot disprove it based on observations. You can only exclude it on philosophical grounds.
