Most studies on food security show that in developing countries, rural women and men play important roles in ensuring their households' food security. In rural Senegal, just like men, women are involved in agriculture, livestock raising, and many other services to support their households. However, they face difficulties in accessing the means of production due to customary and religious norms that relegate them to a secondary role. Consequently, their efforts receive little recognition or are ignored, particularly with regard to their contributions in terms of initiatives and efforts related to the physical availability of food, economic and physical access to food, and food utilization. This study analyzed, from a social and economic perspective, the dual role played by women in rural Senegal-and particularly in the village of Savoigne in the rural commune of Diam, in the Saint-Louis region-in ensuring the well-being of their households, with a focus on access to food.
