The Genius is a novel written by Theodore Dreiser, first published in 1915. The book tells the story of Eugene Witla, a talented artist who struggles to find his place in society. Eugene is born into a poor family in the Midwest and is forced to work odd jobs to support himself. Despite his difficult circumstances, Eugene has a natural talent for drawing and painting. He eventually moves to New York City to pursue his dream of becoming a successful artist. In New York, Eugene meets a wealthy woman named Angela Blue who becomes his patron and lover. With her help, Eugene is able to establish himself as a successful artist. However, his success comes at a cost. Eugene becomes arrogant and selfish, neglecting his friends and family. He also becomes involved in a scandalous affair with a married woman named Suzanne Dale.As Eugene's career and personal life spiral out of control, he begins to question his own abilities as an artist. He realizes that his success has been based on the support of others and not his own talent. In the end, Eugene is left alone and disillusioned, struggling to come to terms with his own limitations. The Genius is a novel that explores the themes of ambition, love, and the price of success. It is a powerful and thought-provoking work that has been praised for its realistic portrayal of the struggles of the artist's life.1914. American author, outstanding representative of naturalism, whose novels depict real-life subjects in a harsh light. Dreiser's books were held to be amoral, and he battled throughout his career against censorship and popular taste. The Genius, a sprawling semiautobiographical chronicle of Dreiser's numerous love affairs, was originally censured by the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice.
