DEPARTMENTS OF INSTRUCTION DESIGNATION OF COURSES The courses given in the first Semester are designated by odd numbers, those in the second Semester by even numbers, and the courses running throughout the year by double numbers. Courses designed to meet the needs of first-year students are numbered 10 to 19; courses for second-year students, 20 to 29, for third-year students, 30 to 39, for fourthyear students and graduate students, 40 and above. Courses not assigned to any particular class are designated by numbers from 1 to 9. All three hour courses are given on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. All two hour courses are given on Tuesday and Thursday. ART Professor BatchEllor The aim of this department is to give all students who desire it, an elementary knowledge of the principles of art. Certain courses are open to all college students. These are as follows: 1-2. Free-hand Drawing. Three Hours. The course includes the application of the laws of perspective, and light and shade, in the representation of form by the use of pen and pencil. 3-4. Free-hand Drawing (advanced). Three hours. Work includes drawing from casts, models, and still life by the use of pen and ink, and charcoal. 5-6. Mechanical Drawing. Two hours. Course includes geometrical drawing; projection and lettering. 7-8. Historic Ornament. Three hours. The course includes the study of the motives used in historic periods, and covers the Ancient, Mediaeval and Renaissance styles. 9-10. Water Color. Three hours. This course is open to students who have had sufficient drawing to be prepared to work in this medium.
