What if your whole street stopped humming?
Maya loves the buzz of bees in the clover and hummingbirds zipping past her window. But one quiet afternoon after school, she notices something strange - no buzzing. No fluttering. No hummingbird wings at all. Her neighborhood is tidy, but lifeless.
In science class, her teacher Mr. Alvarez (from Minnow the Mermaid) explains: pollinators - bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and even flies, beetles, and night-flying moths - carry pollen from flower to flower so plants can make seeds, fruits, and vegetables. When flowers disappear, pollinators disappear too.
Maya decides to bring the hum back. With her friends Lucas and Jun and help from Sam at the plant nursery, she learns how to:

- Make a safe water dish with pebbles so bees can land
- Plant early, mid-season, and late bloomers - salvia and dianthus, coneflowers and bee balm, asters and goldenrod - so something is always flowering
