Five teenage friends have three chords, a pile of mismatched equipment, a garage full of extension cords, and absolutely no idea what they are doing.
Jax Malone, Eddie Cross, Tommy Rourke, Mick Calder, and Ray Crash Donnelly are not supposed to become rock stars. They are supposed to graduate, get jobs, grow up, and eventually stop making so much noise.
Instead, they form Blacktop Halo.
What begins with bad rehearsals, irritated parents, twenty-five-dollar gigs, and late-night drives into Rochester slowly becomes something none of them expected. The band works its way through the clubs and bars of the Rochester music scene, carrying amplifiers through back doors, sleeping wherever they can, surviving broken equipment, empty gas tanks, terrible promoters, and crowds that sometimes barely notice they are there.
Then people start listening.
A few strangers know the words.
A club asks them back.
A manager appears.
Radio finds them.
The crowds get bigger.
The vans become buses.
The bars become theaters.
The theaters become arenas.
And eventually five kids who started in a Fairport garage are standing beneath the lights of Madison Square Garden wondering how in the hell they got there.
But success has a price.
Money changes things.
