A Galilee Doctor presents a compelling biographical sketch of the life and dedicated career of Dr. David Watt Torrance, the pioneering medical missionary who established the first hospital in Tiberias. Written by W. P. Livingstone, this work chronicles the profound humanitarian and spiritual impact of a Scotsman who devoted his life to serving the diverse communities surrounding the Sea of Galilee.
The narrative explores the immense challenges Torrance faced, from the physical hardships of the region to the complexities of navigating cultural and religious differences in late 19th and early 20th-century Palestine. Through his medical expertise and unwavering faith, Torrance transformed the social landscape of the Holy Land, earning the respect of various ethnic and religious groups. The book provides an intimate look at the daily operations of the mission hospital and the personal sacrifices required to sustain such a monumental endeavor. This account stands as a significant historical record of the intersection between modern medicine and Christian mission work, offering valuable insights into the social history of the Galilee region and the enduring legacy of a man committed to healing both body and soul.
