One Hundred Views of Naniwa is a masterpiece within the genre of full-color woodblock prints depicting famous places that was established at the end of the Edo period. The purpose of this book is, first, to reproduce the complete set (all 102 works) and best preserved prints in a full-scale format that most beautifully approximates the originals in order to allow readers to fully appreciate the works. In addition, as the first book-length publication of foundational research, the works are explained from various perspectives including geographical and art historical, incorporating wide-ranging scholarly analyses that include an overview, an explanation of the works and characteristics of individual artists, and a comparative study of different prints. Furthermore, with the goal of becoming a foundational resource that will contribute to future research, this volume includes a list of reference materials that provide information on the state of works in various museum collections, as well as additional related images and references.
