From a Window is Julia Ramirez's third book of poetry, born out of the (dis)comfort we felt from inside our homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These isolating years forced us to explore the glaring dichotomy between our macro and microcosms. Inside and outside became very different settings, with windows being their sole connector. And thus, windows began to have meaning in everything. No longer were they merely sheets of glass held in place by a frame. Windows were our shields and hindrances. Windows were translucent barriers from where we watched the world and stated our stances on all that occurred. We discovered windows into our own minds and were forced to wrangle and make peace with intrusive thoughts, loneliness, nostalgia, fear, physicality, intimacy, and sense of self.
This living-by-the-window allowed us to become acquainted with even the smallest significances in our lives. Come take a seat by your window, open up this book of poetry, and immerse yourself in the many worlds that surround it.
