In France not only French is spoken, but also a number of other languages, i.e. those spoken by autochthonous groups and by immigrants, as well as those in use in the French overseas territories. Presenting all of them in a detailed manner, this volume discusses the opportunities plurilingualism can offer to France but also to any given society.
Présentation du livre en langue française
Contrairement à une idée largement répandue, en France on ne parle pas uniquement français. Y sont en effet également parlées des langues autochtones, des langues d'immigrés anciens et récents ainsi que les langues des départements et territoires d'outre-mer. Chacune d'entre elles a son histoire respective et entretient un rapport communicatif spécifique avec le français (et ces langues entretiennent souvent des rapports entre elles). Aujourd'hui, on parle des langues de France et des langues en France.
Après une présentation des antécédents historiques et la définition de quelques termes fondamentaux de la sociolinguistique, ce livre présente, une à une, ces langues. Même si la plupart des États européens ne s'en sont pas encore rendu compte, l'emploi de plusieurs langues dans une société peut être enrichissant pour tous. En fin d'ouvrage est abordée et discutée la question de la valeur et des potentialités futures des sociétés plurilingues.
