In No Ordinary Cat (Book 1 of this trilogy), Rufus-a cat with uncanny intuition and a gift for mending hearts-ventures into the wilderness seeking his destiny, and nearly loses his life. That might be enough adventure for some cats. Not this one. As Finding Waihona (book 2 in the series) opens, Rufus is desperate to reunite with his feral friend Asha, a highly intelligent black feline who routinely courts danger. Encouraged by his fearless soulmate, Rufus widens his world to encompass new characters and opportunities. Together, he and Asha carve new trails, outwit predators, and discover a long-hidden tree fort-Waihona, a mystical place that offers sanctuary to all lovers of the wild, human and otherwise. For Rufus, Finding Waihona is partly about feeding the explorer in his soul. Ultimately, though, this story underscores the power of unconditional love. Rufus's profound compassion restores confidence in a teacher whose bravado camouflages internal fear-and inspires a talented young pitcher to believe he might be the hero others think he is. Finding Waihona, a book for all ages, is about learning what the heart treasures, and protecting it with everything in us.
