Hadanka's compliant media embellish her story by implicating Jack Salmon, a visiting overseas businessman who has diverted much of the country's remaining wealth into a secret retirement fund for its leaders. When he goes on the run, all Hadanka's resources are dedicated to catching him. The Hama Hiru is keen to use his knowledge of élite malfeasance to bring down the regime and intervenes supernaturally to bring him to his temple.
The psychotic president of Malaki is refused future supplies of zauberium in retaliation for past humiliations. He bombs Hadanka, causing its data to be backed up to a remote location. Among the stream of classified files, news and surveillance reports there is a mysterious text that tells the story of a country that the travel industry has only just begun to discover.
