From St. Francis To Dante presents a translation from the chronicle of the Franciscan Salimbene (1221-1288), offering a unique window into the 13th century. Salimbene's chronicle provides vivid details of everyday life, political events, and religious movements during a transformative period in European history.
This translation makes Salimbene's observations accessible to a wider audience, shedding light on the world that shaped St. Francis and influenced Dante Alighieri. Readers will discover firsthand accounts of the conflicts and personalities that defined the era, gaining valuable insights into the medieval mindset and the forces that propelled Europe towards the Renaissance. Explore the world of Franciscan friars, imperial struggles, and the early stirrings of humanism through the eyes of a keen and insightful observer.
