FROM GNOSIOLOGY TO WAḤDAT AL-SHUHŪD: The Anthropology of Mystical Knowing in Islam examines how knowledge is understood within the Islamic intellectual tradition. Rather than limiting knowledge to rational inquiry, this book explores the relationship between epistemology, mystical experience, anthropology, and Islamic philosophy.
Drawing on Islamic intellectual history, Sufism, anthropology of religion, and philosophy of knowledge, the book investigates how mystical knowing (ma'rifah), spiritual experience, and waḥdat al-shuhūd have shaped Muslim understandings of reality, self, and the Divine.
The discussion connects classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary debates in anthropology, religious studies, and philosophy. Instead of treating mysticism as a separate discipline, the book examines it as a form of knowledge that influences religious practice, culture, and intellectual life.
