In Paul Knitter's first (1985) book, No Other Name?, he struggled with the question of Christian claims to uniqueness. This led him to explore what he called a pluralist approach to interreligious dialogue. Yet in the years since then he has come to define the problem more in terms of Christian supremacy. This book is a theological memoir, in which he shows how from his early youth, entry into a Catholic missionary order, studies under Rahner, and subsequent theological career he explored this question--attempting to understand the claims of Christianity in relation to other religious paths. His journey reflects the ongoing development of this question in theology and the Church, and his own spiritual quest, in which these questions were also shaped by the influence of liberation theology and by his own explorations in Buddhism.
