A Friend of the People is a play written by Theodore Bonnet in 1914. The play is divided into four acts and revolves around the character of Dr. Stockmann, who is a respected member of a small Norwegian town. Dr. Stockmann discovers that the town's new public baths, which he had championed, are contaminated and unsafe for use. He decides to bring this to the attention of the town's leaders, but they refuse to acknowledge the problem. As a result, Dr. Stockmann becomes increasingly frustrated and angry, and his relationships with his family and friends begin to suffer. The play explores themes of truth, power, and corruption, and raises questions about the role of the individual in society. Overall, A Friend of the People is a thought-provoking and engaging play that continues to resonate with audiences today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
