Le Bianca C de Grenade, le Roraima de Martinique, le Rhone des îles Vierges britanniques, le LST-467 des îles Vierges américaines, l'Antilla d'Aruba, le Windjammer de Bonaire... ce sont quelques-unes des épaves historiques les plus spectaculaires des Caraïbes. Au fil des années, les épaves deviennent des récifs artificiels. Les coraux et les éponges couvrent les tôles d'une parure colorée. Les bancs de poissons scintillants tourbillonnent dans les cales et la vie marine dissimule les cicatrices des naufrages.
Appareil photo et crayon en main, Cathy Salisbury et Dominique Serafini recherchent et explorent ces navires légendaires. À travers leurs peintures, leurs photographies et leurs récits, ils capturent la beauté mystérieuse de ces épaves.
Nous avons commencé notre croisière dans le sud des Antilles avec les îles ABC - Aruba, Bonaire et Curaçao ainsi que l'atoll de Las Aves au Venezuela. Ensuite, nous avons visité les îles du Vent, en commençant à Grenade et en terminant en Martinique. Sur les îles sous le vent, nous avons lentement fait notre chemin de Nevis aux îles Vierges américaines. De là , nous avons continué notre croisière, visitant les Bahamas, les îles Caïmans et le Honduras. Bien que la Floride ne fasse pas vraiment partie des Antilles, ni de notre voyage, nous n'avons pas pu résister à présenter des épaves que nous avons visitées à West Palm Beach et Boynton Beach. C'était en septembre, pendant la saison des amours d'une créature géante fantastique - le mérou goliath. Si ce livre vous donne le virus des épaves, équipez-vous et partez à la recherche de nouvelles découvertes.
Le premier projet de Dominique et Cathy était un livre sur les naufrages les plus spectaculaires d'Aruba, Bonaire et Curaçao appelé DreamWrecks, publié en 2001. Cathy a acheté son premier boitier sous-marin afin de prendre des photos pour le livre. En 2006, le livre a inspiré l'émission télévisée DreamWrecks que Cathy et Dominique ont animée. Cette série télévisée en 26 parties avait un objectif plus large - cette fois les épaves des Caraïbes - en suivant le couple dans leurs aventures. Cathy photographie et Dominique dessine et peint les épaves, tout en racontant l'histoire du navire. La série a été diffusée dans le monde entier.
Leur travail collaboratif ne s'arrête pas là . Dominique et Cathy ont réalisé d'autres publications en commun et exposent régulièrement leurs peintures et photographies. À travers leurs oeuvres créatives, ils essaient de montrer à quel point le monde sous-marin est magique et ils espèrent inspirer les autres à l'aimer autant qu'eux.
